Loading Lumber in Caspar 1911

image scans to the right > > >

This image was made in 1911. The Steamship Earl of Forfar is moored in Caspar Anchorage and taking on a load of redwood lumber to be shipped to the United Kingdom. This is one of a set of three highly detailed panoramic photos, two of which were discovered by Matt Buchholz in the Library of Congress; Matt found the third – this image – at the Kelley House Museum in Mendocino. This is a small version of a much larger scan made, touched-up, and sepia-tinted by Braggadoon in Fort Bragg. Photo courtesy of Matt Buchholz.
