What drew me to Caspar? My toss-off answer has been Cosmic Flow. Who knows what draws us to and keeps us in a place?
When I first came to Caspar, I felt I had stepped Through the Looking Glass. As I walked past the gate to my first home, the rain had just stopped, the sun was at its four o’clock slant, and the drops were glistening in the redwoods. It wasn’t just the majesty of the land that stirred me; the people were amazing—smart. interesting, creative, playing music!! It was fun and funny and real. There was a shared sense of community, and that has endured somehow. Maybe it’s just contagious, but it makes cooking, planning, working together a joy.
I am so happy to see the coming generations enjoying, valuing, and becoming part of what lives here.
(I kept my last name in part because my father used to refer to the first lines of Edgar Allen Poe’s poem:
It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE.
Looking at the poem anew, I see that she dies and is buried there, which seems to be my plan.) |
