Caspar Community Meeting: May 1999 |
Caspar News and Press ReleasesCommunity Meeting to View 1903 MovieThe monthly Caspar Community meeting will take place on Sunday, May 9th, at 3:00 PM in the Caspar Jewish Community Center in downtown Caspar. As always, all who are interested in Caspar and its work to preserve itself are encouraged to attend. The meeting will feature a viewing of the Caspar Lumber Company movie filmed in 1903. Due to the diligence of Mendocino author Bruce Levene, new footage has been discovered and will be shown publicly for the first time in several decades. Old-timers from the community are urged to attend and describe what the file depicts. According to founding board member Patty Madigan, "It's important that we all know where we've been--to know where we're going." At this month's meeting, the Traffic Brigade and District Formation committees will report their findings and progress. Members of the Caspar Community board met during the month with State officials, legislators, and with our Trust for Public Land (TPL) project manager Andrew Vesselinovitch, and will also report. Founding board member Meridian Green explained, "We need to stay focused and keep the community's attention and intention on TPL exercising an option to purchase the entire property." Organizers will offer previews of upcoming events, including the June 6th Benefit Luncheon at the Albion River Inn. The business of the annual meeting, previously announced for May, has been postponed.
