Caspar Helps Katrina Victims |
Caspar News and Press ReleasesCaspar Community Reaching Out to Katrina VictimsIn addition to a benefit for Katrina victims to be held at the Caspar Community Center on September 30th, Caspar Community relief efforts include the following: The coastal Peace & Justice, Code Pink, and Veterans for Peace have formed the Mendocino Coast Katrina Relief Committee and are sending their first truck to Covington, Louisiana this coming week. Thanksgiving Coffee has donated a biodiesel truck, Harvest has donated $1,000 worth of food, and other local businesses and individuals have donated as well. Your monetary donation will pay for travel expenses for the truck, and to support midwives, including Yarrow from Elk, and doctors: Money can be sent to Mendocino Coast Peace and Justice Center, P.O. Box 1134, Mendocino, California 95460. Items can be dropped off at Corners of the Mouth in Mendocino or at the home of Roanne Withers at 428 N. Harrison St. and left on the porch. Or call or email Hyla Bolsta at 964-7646 and hylajack@mcn.org or Bette Goldfarb at 961-1683. If you have a vehicle to donate or drive or want a ride, call Zac Zachary at 964-3621 or the Mendocino Coast Environmental Center in Ukiah at 468-1660. A vehicle that has a self contained kitchen with a generator & utensils would be very helpful in feeding people. Anyone going should bring their own camping gear, mosquito repellent, raingear and food. Tetanus and Hep.A&B shots are recommended. Volunteers are needed locally to pack boxes and work on benefits. General information about the Veterans For Peace at Covington can be found at their website www.vfproadtrips.org. They list what to send and how to send them money directly. Here is the list of what is needed. Do not donate clothes as there are enough and, since items must be shipped, light items are especially useful. electrolytes
