Caspar Community Meeting: February 2005 |
Caspar News and Press ReleasesCaspar Meeting to discuss Children's GardenThe Caspar Community meeting on Sunday, February 13, will feature a proposal to relocate The Caspar Children's Garden onto the grounds of the Caspar Community Center.. This possible relocation was discussed at a previous meeting of the Community, receiving an enthusiastic response. As a result a joint committee of the Children's Garden and the Caspar Community Board of Directors have drafted a proposal whereby land on the southeast corner of the Community Center's property would be leased to the Children's Garden for a new pre-school. The school and its playground would be enclosed by a low fence and access from the center's parking lot would be via a walkway to the south of the center. The Community board feels that the Children's Garden has been a great asset to the community for many years, providing excellent day care for preschoolers. It can no longer stay in its present location on Pacifica Drive, and must find new quarters or close. Judy Tarbell, president of the Caspar board says that they are excited by this opportunity to bring the energy of a pre-school into the center of town. "The presence of the children and their parents will broaden the center's service to the community and draw in more of the young coastal families." Details of the draft agreement will be presented at the Sunday meeting and questions will be addressed. If the deal can be finalized with the Caspar Children's Garden, the project could be completed in 2006. Several other items are on the agenda for the Sunday meeting, which will begin at 3:00 pm at the Caspar Community Center. Board member Michael Potts will give an update on the work the Community has been doing with the Mendocino County Planning Department and the Coastal commission to obtain a town square for Caspar. Documents and proposed maps of the square, as well as the land swaps needed to make it happen, will be on display. The Caspar Communities finances will also be discussed. Another topic dear to the hearts of many Casparados is a community garden. Plans for this project will be unveiled at the meeting, with work scheduled to begin on Sunday, February 20th for those wishing to participate. A potluck dinner and social hour will follow the meeting. Any and all coastal residents interested in the future of Caspar are invited to attend this meeting. For further information you can contact Dalen Anderson, the manager of the Community Center at 964-4997. Mark the Calendar for 3:00, Sunday afternoon, February 13, at the Caspar Community Center. written by Jerry Juhl for the Mendocino Beacon, for publication 10 February 2005
