Caspar Community Meeting: May 2000 |
Caspar News and Press ReleasesCaspar Looks a Century AheadOn Sunday, May 14th, the regular meeting of the Caspar Community will celebrate Mother's Day by taking the next step in planning how the community will look in one hundred years. Under the direction of resident poet Meridian Green -- the poets being the true shapers of a culture -- this meeting will be a brainstorming session regarding the possibilities, both happy and dark, that lie ahead for Caspar. "This is a very important conversation, but it won't be over in a single Sunday afternoon," according to Meridian. "After three years, we still have a very fragmentary vision of what will be best a century ahead. Imagine what our foremothers and forefathers might have said to each other at a meeting like this at the start of the 20th century!" Meridian emphasized the importance of including as many coastal residents in the conversation as possible. "Renters, musicians, land owners, business people, room cleaners, innkeepers, chefs and bottle washers, dreamers, and futurists ... we need all to join in this discussion," Meridian stated. Meridian hopes that this phase of the planning process will result in some ideas of services and activities that will benefit the Caspar community and all coastal residents. At a future meeting, tentatively planned for June 11th, some of the more promising ideas will be presented to a second meeting, which will considered priorities and means for accomplishing the goals. "If you can't make it to the Mothers Day meeting, be sure to take care of your mother, and plan to attend the next meeting," Meridian said. written by Michael Potts for the Mendocino Beacon, 11 May 2000
