GRI: Public Workshop
After the “4th of July” holiday fireworks, barbecues, and parades are over, but before we resume our normal daily lives, it seems fitting to consider WHY we celebrate the struggle in 1776 of democracy vs authoritarianism. Because that struggle continues to manifest itself every day in some fashion in our lives and will continue to do so in our future. Therefore, it is vital we renew our commitment to that struggle as we move forward as a community and as a nation. As one way to renew our energy and commitment to strengthening democracy, GRI will hold a public workshop on Sunday, July 7th from Noon until 6 pm at the Caspar Community Center to focus on Democracy and Authoritarianism. ![CasparFest at Caspar Community Center on Sunday, July 21, from noon to 8 pm. Music, dancing, marketplace, food, and drinks. Benefits Caspar Community.](https://casparcommons.org/calendar/CasparFest240721.jpg)
CasparFest 2024 will take place Sunday, July 21st, outdoors at the Caspar Community Center, starting at noon. The music begins with MendoTaiko, followed by Whiskey Wristwatch, a seven piece polyjammerous band hailing from the Anderson Valley; the Old Growth Jazz Club, from greater Comptche, will swing the dance floor; local favorites Gwyneth Moreland & Angie Heimann will sing homegrown Americana as Ghost Pony; & wrapping up the day… the sizzling sounds of Tropiqueño, a ten piece salsa band from Arcata.
Between bands there will be youth performances by Caspar Ballet & Grupo Folklorico y Teatro de Jovenes. The marketplace will include over 30 vendor & non-profit booths. Flockworks will offer kids activities & our annual Cupcake Walk (for all ages), with live music by the String Sisters (Frannie Leopold & Judy Stavely), will take place indoors at 5:30 pm. Great local organic food will be offered by Dalen & the Caspar kitchen crew, with beer, wine, & margaritas available at the bar.
Admission is free with donations encouraged. Please leave your animal friends at home.
Join in the fun of CasparFest as a volunteer! There are times & tasks to fit your interest & schedule. Set-up & kitchen prep, as well as set up before & break down after the event. Bring a friend to work beside you to double the fun. We are looking for 2 hour shifts in the kitchen, lunch, & dinner sales, at the treat table, bar, merch table, admissions, & security support. Please call 707.964.4997 or email casparevents@gmail.com if you would like to help.
